Designing and building multiple brand new websites for STM and it’s subrands. Including a pitchbuilder feature for desktop and mobile.
We were able to identify a number of areas the STM world website could be improved, which helped to drive the design process.
The look and feel would need to convey a quality feel, which could be applied across multiple company websites.
The wireframing process allowed us to highlight some areas that could be improved, such as adding call to actions and giving more attention to the pitchbuilder as this was a unique feature. Our approach allowed us to create a simplified design framework that the new pages would follow.
The parts search function would be at the centre of the overall design of the website, featured as one of the first things a user would see on the homepage. And the search function would be accessible on every page.
The filter options needed to allow users to find a specific part for any car from nearly 40,000 parts; sorted by year, make and model.
The website would require the use of each brand representing the different sectors of STM’s product offering.
This includes the corporate business oriented look (seen above), and the sports and education branding (seen below). The designs would involve integrating the fonts, colours and icons used from each brand into the site.
STM’s previous website included it’s very own pitchbuilder, allowing users to create a preview of football pitches, playgrounds and tennis courts. While the pitchbuilder was a robust tool, it suffered from a poor conversation rate leasding many users to not completing the process in full.
We quickly identified that the process to complete the old pitchbuilder was too long. To complete the largest pitch or playground the user would need to go through up to 12 steps before reaching the enquiry form.
To solve this we categorized the features together. The likes of colour, fence height and gate type would be just one step, and the features such as netball courts, basketball courts and running tracks would be another.
This new approach to the user experience influenced the overall design of the pitchbuilder.
Features with multiple varirations such as the gates and fence height could use sliders. While features like the tennis courts and lighting, which needed a yes or no answer, could use a switch. The simplified design allows users to customize several features at once before progressing onto the next step in the process.
The benefits of using the sliders and the switch was that they were suitable for a mobile interface. This approach means the functionality of the full pitchbuilder works on the mobile version of the website with relatively few adjustments and all the features intact.

To compliment STM World’s website, we created a brand new, responsive site for the companies’ maintenance division.
The design followed the brand’s style to keep the website consistent, but includes an all new colour scheme and bespoke icons.
